- Initiatives by the Ministry of Public Order and Greek Police (EL.AS) to combat Trafficking in Human Beings -

The trafficking of people, for the purpose of sexual or economical exploitation, has become a modern-day form of slavery- a rapidly developing area for international organized crime. The victims are men, women and children.

According to recent estimates, people trafficking lags only behind illegal weapons and narcotics smuggling in terms of its profitability for criminals. Without doubt, people trafficking is multifaceted social, legal and law enforcement problem. Cooperation and coordinated multi-sector initiatives are necessary to deal with this problem; initiatives that must be responsibly implemented by all involved bodies.
